One of the least useful skills of all, since it's almost always possible to search enemies after killing them.

The Dodge mechanics are reviewed several times in the walkthrough, including this section in the Soviet Installation.Įnemies killed in stealth will be automatically looted for resources. If you choose this 25% to 30% into the game and continue to build on it with the Duelist Reflexes, Dodge Kill, and Dodge Kill Mastery skills, Lara will be able to hold her own against even the toughest armored enemies later in the game. Not as crucial as it was in the previous game but still very helpful in dealing with enemies stronger than Lara. Incapacitate unarmored enemies while dodging with a well-timed press of the Dodge button. Crucial when playing on harder difficulty settings where Lara's health doesn't regenerate automatically. You can probably wait a while before taking this one, but it is a useful skill once you reach the Soviet Installation and start encountering tougher enemies that use these types of attacks. Take significantly less damage from explosions and fire. Cumulative with the Tier 3 skill Heart of Stone.Įxtremely useful early in the game when your other skills and resources are limited, also when playing on the more challenging difficulty settings. Take less damage from enemy gunfire and melee attacks. You probably won't unlock all of them by the end of the game, but you can always continue playing after you finish the story-or start a new game and try a different approach. I have also included a few suggestions (in bold red type) in the tables below. WHICH SKILLS SHOULD I CHOOSE FIRST? In the walkthrough, I occasionally make recommendations that may be useful in upcoming sections, but by all means choose skills that suit your play style. If you want spoilers, check the walkthrough or Collectibles Guide. Challenge Tomb locations are not listed here. These skills are noted in the tables below. There are also 10 special skills that can only be unlocked by reading ancient codices, primarily found inside Challenge Tombs. Skills you've already unlocked will be gray, and skills you can't choose yet-either because you don't have enough experience or because they require some prerequisite-have red icons. On the in-game menu skills that are currently available will be highlighted in white. Tier 3 skills are unlocked once you have unlocked any combination of 19 lower-level skills. These can be any combination of Brawler, Hunter, and Survivor skills. Tier 2 skills become available once you've unlocked eight skills from the first tier.

Some of these have other prerequisites, which are listed in the Skills submenu and in the table below. Later, the more powerful Tier 2 and Tier 3 skills will become available. Depending on your play style, you may want to specialize in one category, but a strong, well-rounded Lara will have skills from all three.Įarly in the game, you'll only be able to choose from Tier 1 (beginner) skills in each area of specialization. These will be familiar if you played the 2013 game. Here you can peruse the various skills available in three categories: Brawler, Hunter, and Survivor. Select Skills to open the Skills submenu.

In order to spend a skill point, you must find a Base Camp and rest there. (The Siberian Wilderness walkthrough covers the mechanics in detail.) When this meter fills, you earn a Skill Point. Each time you gain XP, a shield-shaped meter appears on the left side of the screen showing the number of points earned. As you progress through the game you'll gradually accrue Experience Points (XP) for things like hunting, defeating enemies, finding collectibles, and reaching new areas.
